Rouba Nassar - SEA Case Story

August 23, 2024

What brought you to this moment in your career where the Sustainability Excellence Associate (SEA) made sense for you?

I started my career as a green building rating specialist with LEED and BREEAM. Over time, I realized that sustainability extends beyond green construction—it's only a part of it. Addressing climate change requires a broader approach, so I decided to learn more about the fundamentals of sustainability, including the frameworks and principles behind it, to better integrate these concepts into my life and career.

How are you putting the knowledge, skills, and ability demonstrated in the SEA to work in your career (or work) today?

Utilizing sustainability frameworks and principles to develop more effective solutions, addressing climate change in a holistic manner, and continuously improving my strategies based on the latest industry standards and best practices. This approach enhances both the environmental impact and overall effectiveness of my work.

For those starting out in the sustainability field, what advice do you have for them?

Try to ensure a comprehensive understanding of what makes a building or city truly sustainable; it's not solely about environmental factors. A holistic approach that also considers human well-being is essential. We are integral to this system, and our actions should reflect that interconnectedness.
