End of Year Letter 2023

End of year letter

A note from Michelle Benavides, ISSP Executive Director

As we approach the end of 2023, I am filled with gratitude for this community of changemakers. Spanning every continent and industry, thousands of professionals like you are selflessly giving your time, expertise, and passion to support world-changing work.

This year has been particularly special for us as we mark our 15th anniversary—a milestone significant not just for ISSP, but also for the huge strides of this industry. When we founded ISSP in 2008, our vision was to create a global community that would drive positive change towards a more sustainable future.

2023 looked like members in over 95 countries, three new courses, and hundreds of Sustainability Excellence credential holders. To better support this thriving community, we are launching two more member benefits in 2024: monthly working sessions to help you build practical skills for executing sustainability projects AND monthly networking opportunities on every first Thursday of the month. [See events here]

We are so grateful to be able to be your community to learn and connect. In order to reach more professionals around the world and accelerate impact, we need your support. Your generosity plays a crucial role in empowering sustainability professionals across the workforce and around the world.

Here's how you can get involved:

  • Join our Community: When you become an ISSP member, you are connecting yourself to the community, training, and tools you need to meet your goals and create sustainable change. Your annual membership fees also enable additional professional development opportunities (like the two new series launching in January!) and allow us to expand access to members across developing countries.
  • Champion Sustainability in Your Organization: When you're striving to meet organization-wide goals, it's much easier when your team works from a shared, foundational knowledge of sustainability. In the new year, consider advocating for your team to get access to training, a community to lean on as they learn, and new partnerships through a network of organizations who are also committed to sustainability.
  • Make a Donation: Your financial support, no matter the size, makes a significant impact on our ability to continue delivering relevant and diverse programs, resources, and events. We are a mission-driven 501c3 nonprofit, and all contributions will go directly to activities that advance global progress in sustainable development.

I want to support sustainability professionals!

As we look forward to the new year, my hope is that we bring a spirit of collaboration and stubborn optimism to everything we do. Together, we can create a more sustainable and resilient world for future generations.

Wishing you a joyful holiday season and a happy New Year!

With gratitude,
