Climate change and the other developing countries: Implications for climate policy
(June 30, 10:30 AM Pacific;1:30 PM Eastern, 7:30 PM Stockholm. One hour.)
When we talk about developing countries and what part they could play in climate policy, we usually refer to China, India and other rapidly industrialising countries. These countries have gone through a phase of strong economic growth and, as a result, have become major greenhouse gas emitters in their own right. However, they are the exception rather than the rule: the majority of developing countries still have very low emissions. For example, all of Africa produces around 3% of the total global emissions, while the United States alone is responsible for almost 30%. But it is these African countries, as well as other poor nations including small island states in the Pacific, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean, that are among the most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. This injustice is the reason climate policy is not only about reducing greenhouse gas emissions. An equally important objective of climate policy is to provide financial and technical support to the vulnerable countries in the developing world, to help them prepare for and adapt to the impacts of climate change. This webinar will discuss why this second objective can no longer be overlooked in discussions on a new global climate deal, to be agreed in Copenhagen in December this year.
Dr Richard Klein is a Senior Research Fellow at the Stockholm Environment Institute in Sweden. His research interests include methodological aspects of vulnerability assessment, societal adaptation to climate change, and integration of climate and development policy. He has been involved in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change since 1994 and is thus a co-recipient of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. He also contributed to the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, to the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change and to Tony Blair's report "Breaking the Climate Deadlock". He is the editor-in-chief of the new academic journal Climate and Development (http://www.earthscan.co.uk/?tabid=29957 ).

ISSP Competency Study Results
Oct 14 @ 9:00am Pacific TimeThe interest and momentum behind sustainability has created a whole new professional track. Professionals working in the field come from varied backgrounds and bring a multitude of skills and abilities. That makes for a rich and diverse collection of professionals, but it makes it very hard for people who want to enter the field to find the best and most expedient path. It also complicates hiring for organizations who aren't sure what they should be asking for. Last year ISSP launched its first research study to answer the question: "What should a sustainabiltiy professional know how to do?" We believe the answer will not only be of keen interest to our members, but to employers and institutions of higher eduation as well. Tune into this webinar and hear a report of the findings by the research committee lea by Executive Director, Marsha Willard. You'll want to know what you should know!

How do you sell “green” in a world with a seemingly insatiable appetite for more, More, MORE? In a world in which Wal-Mart, GM, and BP are waving the green flag, how can marketers be heard—and believed? I offer real-world tales from the trenches, the latest market trends, and insight and inspiration to help marketers succeed in the growing green marketplace. Joel Makower of GreenBiz has been studying the green marketing field for over 20 years. His most recent book is Strategies for the Green Economy.

Cleantech Investment and Innovation Conference
September 24th - 25th, Rendezvous Melbourne
Clean technologies are emerging as the enablers of the modern industrial society, the next and necessary wave of venture innovation in a natural resource constrained world. While the environmental benefits of clean technologies can be significant, the primary drivers for investments in them are the commercial advantages offered by the technologies to underpin their successful commercialisation and quality returns for investors.
The introduction of the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme (CPRS) as outlined in the Federal Government’s White Paper, and the resulting demand that will be placed on emitters to find innovative clean technology solutions, will create many opportunities for investors and particularly for the venture capital sector.
In 2008, clean technology venture investments in North America, Europe, China and India totaled a record $8.4 billion. The preliminary 2008 total represents the seventh consecutive year of growth in venture investing, widely recognised as a leading indicator of overall investment patterns.
The 2009 marcus evans Cleantech Investment and Innovation Conference has been specially tailored to address the key challenges and opportunities Australian Cleantech sector faces in these difficult times. The conference also aims to provide delegates with the latest insights and best practices by gathering policy makers, Cleantech investors and innovators together.

Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction Strategies
26-27 October 2009, Johannesburg, South Africa
Greenhouse gas emissions have become an international issue both for industrialised and developing countries. Many businesses in plying their trade contribute immensely to climate change. There have been advocacies, promptings, lapse legislations, mechanisms, projects, instruments and standards channelled towards the mitigation of the amount of emissions let into the atmosphere by businesses and other anthropogenic activities. The initiatives have not been able to control nor mitigate the emission problems.
More so, businesses in South Africa and globally are currently aware of the imminence of stringent and mandatory regulations meant to enforce emission reduction mechanisms. With the impact of the global financial crisis on businesses requiring that costs be cut, how are businesses going to overcome the financial commitments that come along with efforts to comply with emission reduction requirements.
Among the main issues that will address and discuss in the conference are Incorporating ISO 14064 and ISO 14065 for adequate greenhouse house gas emission accounting; Acknowledging the importance of alternative energy sources in the mitigation of carbon emissions; Identifying technological intervention and mitigation strategies capable of reducing carbon emissions cost effectively; Appraising government intervention in emission reduction for better business compliance ; Gaining insight into carbon emission legislations to effectively situate your businesses for optimal compliance ; Discussing the pros and cons of carbon trading and its impact in emission reduction ; Acknowledging the importance of carbon capture and storage initiative as vital in a coal based economy ; Demonstrating the importance of private public partnership in confronting the challenges posed by greenhouse gas emissions ; Gaining deeper understanding into economic instruments as effective tools for carbon emission reduction
This conference will explore the best and most cost effective emission reduction strategies implemented by industry leaders to enable delegates have practical solutions to their business emission problems. There will be a thorough highlight of voluntary and mandatory standards and regulations to enhance business compliance. The various instruments used to mitigate emission will be taken up so as to maximise opportunities and challenges therein.
