Measuring Impact: Enterprise GHG Inventory and Product Carbon Footprint Assessment

Carbon footprinting, both at an organizational and a product level, is an essential skill in bringing sustainability to organizations of all types. Tom Gloria, of Industrial Ecogoloy Consultants, will provide you with an excellent background, rigorous process and concrete tools for conducting a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory of a company and carbon footprint of a product. The material presented will provide key context, policy trends, and emerging protocols overview, and then present the entire process, including:

  •   Selecting relevant protocols and data tools
  •   Setting boundaries for your inventory
  •   Data gathering
  •   Calculating emissions
  •   Estimating emissions sources with incomplete data
  •   Interpretation of results, and framing of major issues
  •   Final reporting writing and other dissemination

The course is broken up into four classes:

Class 1: Overview, policy and regulatory update
Class 2: Company level GHG inventory, offsets and trading
Class 3: Product GHG footprint and certification
Class 4: Program management and practical tools

The workshop is intended to provide a foundation in the main technical issues so students are ready to take on the task of a GHG inventory or carbon footprint in a wide variety of circumstances.

This course meets on-line on Tuesdays (March 2, 9, 16, 23) at 12:00PM PST for 60-90 minutes.

 

More About The Instructor

Thomas P. Gloria, Ph.D.is Managing Director of Industrial Ecology Consultants. He has more than 19 years of professional experience in sustainability management consulting and information technology engineering design. His work encompasses product innovation; LCA; LCM; methods and policy implications GHG inventories; and energy efficiency feasibility analysis.

Tom has worked with several private & public sector clients conducting sustainability related work including: Armstrong, Avery Dennison, Cargill, Church & Dwight, Codelco, Comalco, Duratel, EILEEN FISHER, Herman Miller, Interface, IZA, ICMM, Iron Ore Company of Canada, Kraft Foods, Levi Strauss & Company, News Corp., NIST, Nike, OECD, Rio Tinto, Sears, SC Johnson, Samsung, Silgan, Timberland, and US EPA.

Dr. Gloria is a Faculty Member of the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, and teaches the Foundations in Sustainability course and is a LCA Certified Professional and member of the Advisory Council of the ACLCA.

He holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Tufts University and a B.Sc. in Electrical and Computer Science Engineering from the University of Connecticut.
